Stakeholders meeting to discuss new masters programmes developed in the department

Department of Extra Mural Studies in the School of Continuing and distance education, College of Education and External Studies held a stakeholders meeting at central catering unit to discuss matters concerning the new curriculum developed for masters programmes: Masters of Science in project financing and Masters of Science in project monitoring and Evaluation to meet the demand in the market.

Invited to attend the meeting include:- Principal Secretary Ministry of devolution and Planning, The Chairman Engineers Board of Kenya, The Director National Environment Management (NEMA), The Director Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), The Chairman Commission for University Education (CUE) among others.

The Dean School of continuing and distance education Prof. Harriet kidombo welcomed the stakeholders representatives from ministry of devolution and planning, Meru county, Nandi county, Nema, PhD Students representative and other government agencies. She welcomed them to share their inputs for the new programmes and agree if it’s what’s important for university and for the country at large. The workshop was meant to ensure that programme is of good quality and stakeholders to be the ambassadors of the programme in marketing it in their areas of jurisdiction.

Director CESSP Prof. Julius Ogeng’o asked stakeholders to open up and give guidelines and ideas where necessary to make the programmes more marketable and this will attract more students to enroll for the programmes.

Director of quality assurance, University of Nairobi Dr. Owino Okwiri, he asked the stakeholders to ensures that the curriculum be based on what the student will do and their suggestions were welcomed to improve the standards of the programmes developed thus enhancing employment capability.

Prof. Charles Rambo, chairman Department of Extra mural centre welcomed the stakeholders to the workshop and noted that in June 2011, the department launched Project planning Management- project financing Programme and due to public demand the department found it necessary to develop the two syllabuses: Masters of Science in Project financing and Masters of Science in project monitoring. He welcomed ideas and suggestions from stakeholders on how to improve the programmes for the market need.

The one day workshop was also graced by College principal Prof. Isaac Jumba who had to leave other demanding duties to come and share a word with the stakeholders in the afternoon session; he thanked them for creating time to attend this important exercise and requested them to give their opinions about the programmes to make them a success.

The two developed programmes were presented to stakeholders for discussion by:

Dr. Raphael Nyonje - Masters of Science in Project Monitoring and Evaluation

Mr. John Bosco Kisimbi – Masters of Science in Project Financing.
