Welcome to the Meru Extra-Mural Centre.  Creation of Extra-Mural Centres is one of the greatest inventions of our time.  Extra-Mural Centres were established in 1955 and they have remained part of the hallmarks of the glories of human aspirations and the power of Human imagination.

I wish to take this opportunity to welcome you to Meru Extra Mural Centre and its environs.  This Centre was established in 2002 as a Sub-centre of Nyeri Extra-Mural Centre.

In an attempt to realize the University mission and Vision, the centre aims at maintaining a leading role in the generation, acquisition, dissemination and preservation of knowledge.  To achieve these aims, the centre ensures that attractive and relevant programmes are offered to the students every semester, prompt registration of students and timely collection of fees ensure efficient delivery of services.

Fully aware of the thirst for higher education, we have opened other Sub-Centres at Embu, Isiolo and Maua and are in the process of opening others at Marsabit, Siakago and anywhere else where our services may be required.  We are determined and ready to take education to the doorsteps of the learners as the need arises.

We have done everything possible within our means to ensure that our students access current information.  Currently we are in partnership with Kenya National Library in Meru and Embu libraries. Our students in these regions therefore use these libraries for research.

Some of the recruitment techniques we use includes: attending School Heads, Association meeting, and other community gatherings.  In these meeting, we are able to market our programmes and in most cases the response has been very positive.

Currently the centre has a student population of 384 diploma and masters students for the year 2010 to 2011 and a total of 280 certificate students for the same year.

Currently we are enrolling students for Bachelor Degree in Bachelor of Arts in Project Planning , Bachelor of Commerce and Diploma in Project Planning and Management for September 2011 intake.

To get full information on the courses we offer, visit the MEC web PAGE.  The centre offers learner support services and provides a link between the University of Nairobi and the students taking various courses.
